I don't remember the last thing I posted so you're all going to have to bare with me on this one. So about 3-4 months ago, my Aunt Maria tells me that she's getting surgery done. Gastric Bypass Surgery to be exact. I was immediately interested and decided to pursue the surgery myself. I found out that medicaid covers it and immediately sprung into action. We had to drive to Lebanon, New Hampshire to get to Dartmouth Hitch**** Clinic. I went to one meeting and found out that they haven't been approved by medicaid yet. Okay, big waste of time. So I lost a lot of hope but immediately gained it back when my Mom realized one of her old friends from Massachusetts had the Gastric Bypass done. She went to meetings at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, Mass... so that was our next goal. After what was (I believe) two or three meetings there, they told us that we lived too far from the Massachusetts border, so I couldn't have the surgery. Well at this point I was devastated... until we found out that Dartmouth Hitch****/Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH does the surgeries as well and accepts medicaid. So, to bring you up to speed, I now have done the initiation, I've gone to the three meeting required, now I just have to lose X amount of weight (probably like 15 lbs), get all of the paperwork done... I need to get like a Letter of Medical Necessity from my Primary Care Physician. and I need to go for an EKG, Psychiatric Evaluation, Sleep Study (which I already did, I just need to get the paperwork), a physical... and probably some other b.s. but yeah I'm taking it one step at a time... and I just hope that medicaid will see that I truly need this surgery, not for glamor but for health reasons....: I'm 23 years old and I'm 350 lbs, I have a bad back and bad knees... I mean it's out of control... please god, let this surgery happen, it will be life changing for me!!! Post a comment for this story
